Japan (2015)
The legendary yakuza's boss called Kamiura has been invincible for ages. His secret is that he is a vampire yakuza. However, the rival gang view with disdain and ridicule him for his inability to get tattooed due to sensitive skin. One day, assassins aware of boss Kamiura's secret, arrive from abroad and advise Kamiura to return to the international syndicate he left years ago. Kamiura refuses and the anime-otaku martial-arts expert Kyoken goes to the city to kill him. With his dying breath, Kamiura bites Kageyama (the rival gang's boss), passing on his vampire powers to the defenceless yakuza. As he begins to awaken to his new abilities, Kageyama desire to avenge the murder of boss Kamiura and a violent confrontation with Kaeru-kun will happen in order to decide who is the most powerful yakuza in the universe!
The prolific Takashi Miike filmed in 2015 this very strange movie as a “self tribute”. Following the same principles of Ichi the Killer or Dead or Alive, Yakuza Apocalypse shows a serial of surrealistic characters in an apocalyptic Tokio. They are vampire yakuzas looking for the glory via killing innocent citizens. The star has to fight against bizarre people such a turtle-yakuza with a duck's beak or a puppet frog with ultra-powers. Summarising, a new Miike's madnesses, very far away from his master pieces and without the freshness of his origins (Audition).
Mark: 5.6
To Remember: The Kyoken's martial-arts skills.
To Forget: The plot; crazy, chaotic and without content.
